IN THIS PRICE BOOK ▾
The whole book as two spreadsheets that open in Excel or Google Sheets: 45 repairs (hours, parts, price, published range, sources) and 106 parts (your cost, price to customer, sources). No email needed.
A plumbing price book is the list of repairs you sell at one fixed price, each built from the hours it takes and the parts it uses. Quoting from one means two techs give the same price for the same job, and the customer hears a price before you start, not a running meter.
We researched this book for plumbing shops in October 2026. Hours come from a published flat-rate reference table and trade sources; part costs from retail and distributor listings; each repair price was checked against published price ranges for the same job. No plumber has reviewed it yet, so treat it as a starting point for your own costs, hours and market.
How each repair is priced. Parts at book price, plus hours at your rate.
Parts are priced on a sliding scale by cost: several times cost on cheap fittings and cartridges, about double around $100, and 1.4 to 1.6 times on water heaters. The plumbing markup chart shows the scale step by step.
What every repair assumes
Drive time and the service call are priced on their own: the book has a $99 service call or diagnostic fee.
The 45 repairs, by group. Hours, parts, price and the published range.
"Parts" is what the parts sell for at book prices. "Published range" is what cost guides and published plumber price lists show for the same job. At $125 an hour, 41 of the 45 land inside it; the rest are marked.
Three come in under the range at $125 and one over. A toilet clog cleared with the shop's own auger has no parts, so the price is just labor; published prices start at about $110, and the $99 service call covers the gap. A P-trap is an $8 part and under an hour; published prices near $200 read like a minimum-charge visit, and with the service call it comes to about $220. A water heater element misses by a dollar. The gas control valve lands $9 over because the valve itself costs about $170; on a heater past 8 to 10 years old, replacing the heater is usually the better quote.
The same book at your rate. Change one number and every repair moves.
Published 2026 sources put residential plumbing between about $80 and $160 an hour in most markets, and up to $225 for flat-rate shops building a fully loaded rate. Here's what six common repairs come to at three rates. To build your own rate from your costs, use the labor rate calculator; the math is the same for any trade.

A list of the repairs a plumbing shop sells at a fixed price, each built from the labor hours and parts the job takes. Techs quote from the book instead of working out a price on site, so the same job gets the same price.
This page has one: 45 flat-rate repairs and 106 parts, free to download as spreadsheets with no email. It's a starting point; replace the part costs, hours and rate with your own.
In this book a like-for-like 40 to 50 gallon gas water heater swap is 3.5 hours plus about $1,229 in parts at book prices, which comes to $1,669 at $125 an hour. Published ranges for the same job run about $800 to $2,900, before permits, expansion tanks and disposal.
Charging one set price per repair instead of hours plus materials. The price covers the expected hours, the parts and the overhead of the trip, so the customer knows the price before the work starts and the shop isn't penalized for working fast.
List the repairs you do most, time each one, list the parts each uses at your supply house cost, mark the parts up (most flat-rate shops use a sliding scale by part cost), add hours times your billed rate, and round. Then review it every few months as part costs move.
$125 an hour for standard labor, $190 after hours and $70 for a helper, with a $99 service call. Change the rate to yours and every repair price changes with it.
Turning this into your price book. Four passes, an afternoon each.
Costs, codes and licensing here are US. Canadian shops will see different part costs and provincial plumbing codes.
Sources the ranges and hours were checked against include HomeAdvisor's cost guides, SubcontractorHub's 2026 flat-rate pricing guide, a Dallas-Fort Worth plumber's published prices, This Old House and Housecall Pro. Every repair's own sources are in the spreadsheet.
